Why NeverBeSilent? PDF Print E-mail

Walking through the centre of the Old City of Jerusalem my wife and I came in contact with a religious Jewish man.  While we were talking he asked us why we were in Jerusalem and then, all of a sudden, looked us straight in the eye and said:

“You Christians come to Israel once a year for a prayer conference, you pray for peace in Jerusalem, enjoy your stay in Jerusalem and after a week, satisfied with your trip, you go back to your own country… but, do you know we need your prayers constantly! Not just now and then … you believers should be here in Jerusalem non-stop interceding for peace in Jerusalem…”

We looked at each other, totally surprised and somewhat taken back by his direct statement.  During our many visits to Israel we had never been confronted like this!

A few days later, sitting in the shade of a large fig tree reading my Bible I came to Isaiah 62 where it says, “For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, for Jerusalem’s sake I will not remain quiet…” And further in verse 6: “I have posted watchmen on your walls , O Jerusalem; they will never be silent day or night. You who call on the Lord, give yourselves no rest, and give Him no rest till he establishes Jerusalem and makes her the praise of the earth.”

I knew this verse well, but when I read it this time it was like God’s Spirit said to me: “I want you to take these words literally; I want you to give yourself an Me ‘no rest’. In a flash I saw something of a plan.

NeverBeSilent is the response to the encounter with the Jewish man in the Old City of Jerusalem and God’s call 'under the olive tree'.
